IMF Managing Director praises leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) - The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, on a working visit since Tuesday in Kinshasa, has praised the important role President Felix Tshisekedi plays and continues to play on the African continent as the current chairman of the African Union (AU).

During a press briefing on Wednesday, following a meeting with the Congolese head of state, Georgieva noted the role played by Tshisekedi, particularly in helping African countries gain access to the anti-Covid-19 vaccine, through the African Vaccine Fund set up at the African level.

She also praised his leadership for more funding for the African continent and his position in the discussions on climate change.

For the IMF, she stressed, all African proposals must be taken into account at the global level in the various global forums.

"The world must recognize that Africa contributes very little to greenhouse gas emissions and it is Africa that bears the burden of the consequences of these emissions," she acknowledged, saying that Africa is the solution to the problem of climate change.

"You can't talk about climate change without talking about the great rainforest," she said.
