Zambian President mourns Hugo Chavez

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) – The Zambian President, Michael Sata, who on Thursday sent a message of condolences to the acting Venezuelan President, Nicola Maduro Moros, said he learnt with great sadness the untimely death of President Hugo Chavez.

“May I, on behalf of Government and the People of the Republic of Zambia and on my own behalf, convey our heartfelt condolences to you, the bereaved family, the Government and People of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” President Sata stated Thursday in the condolence message.

President Sata stated that Chavez will be greatly remembered for his genuine concern for the poor and efforts made to improve the infrastructure, education, health and literacy levels in his country.

“We hope and trust that the people will remain determined and united as your Government continues with his legacy,” President Sata said.

“As we join you in mourning your beloved President, may I take this opportunity to assure you of our continued support in your future endeavours and hope for the improved bilateral relations between the Republic of Zambia and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”

Chavez died on Tuesday after a two-year battle with cancer.
