Zambia: President Sata committed to Constitution review process

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) – Zambian President Michael Sata has reaffirmed government’s commitment to the process of Constitution review.

Sata, who on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with members of the Diplomatic Corps and International Organisations accredited to Zambia, assured the nation and various stakeholders that government is still committed to the process of Constitution review.

“In this regard, after the receipt of the report from the Technical Committee, government will consider the recommendations, because we have to factor the logistical and financial repercussions in order not to derail other pressing developmental projects,” Sata said in a statement released by State House.

Parliament has of late been forced to adjourn following demands by opposition members of parliament for the release of the draft constitution and that the House only debates issues relating to the constitution.

Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini on Wednesday warned MPs who were absconding from the business of the House, that they will no longer receive their sitting allowances and will also be subjected to disciplinary proceedings.
