Zambia: President Lungu confident Junior Chipolopolos will be victorious in South Korea

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) - Zambian President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, may not be a soothsayer but his prediction on Saturday that Zambia will play well against two-time champions Portugal came to pass on Sunday at the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.

Zambia, the African champions, defeated the more experienced Portugal 2-1 in a Group C encounter.

The Europeans won the World Cup in 1989 and 1991, silver medal in 2011 and bronze in 1995,

It was 17-year-old Edward Chilufya who opened scoring for Zambia with his strike in the 51st minute and Fashion Sakala, aged 20, put Zambia further up with a goal in the 76th minute. Portugal's goal came in the 91st minute.

In a statement by his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda, President Lungu predicted that the Junior Chipolopolo National Team will perform according to the expectations of the Zambians, and therefore, wished the team God’s blessings and strength in the match against Portugal.

The President is impressed with the good performance that the young Chipolopolo has so far exhibited, particularly in the Africa Under-20 AFCON which Zambia hosted and won in March this year.

Mr. Lungu has said the same zeal that the team exhibited to achieve the AFCON results should propel the Junior Chipolopolo to even perform better at the FIFA World Cup Tournament.

President Lungu is hopeful that the Junior Chipolopolo will put up a good fight at the World Cup to bring home even greater glory.

He counselled the team to remain focused, team spirited, and aim at getting goals for them to lift the Cup as football was about winning.

Zambia is campaigning in Group C with Portugal, Iran and Costa Rica.
