Zambia: Former Zambian deputy minister faces corruption charge

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) – Zambia's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Wednesday announced completion of its investigation on former Agriculture Deputy Minister Rogers Mwewa and that the matter has been referred to the National Prosecutions Authority (NPA) for possible legal action.

President Michael Sata last December fired Mwewa from his post after the ACC instituted investigation following allegations that he had misused Constituency Development Funds to purchase second hand vehicles.

ACC public relations manager Timothy Moono told journalists in Lusaka that Mwewa, also Member of Parliament for the ruling Patriotic Front, was being investigated for abuse of authority of office relating to the Constituency Development Funds.

"With regard to allegations of corruption involving Rogers Mwewa, the matters have now been referred to the National Prosecutions Authority for possible consent to prosecute," Moono said.

Also, Moono disclosed that the ACC has referred to the NPA another case involving Mwewa’s wife, Anna Mwewa, a former Cabinet office permanent secretary for Administration, who faces accusation of abuse of authority for possible consent to prosecute.

Ms. Mwewa allegedly abused authority of office in irregular procurement of VIP curtains at Lusaka International Airport.
