Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) - Botswana’s Divisional Commander South Central, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Matthews Letsholo Saturday called on youth drivers to take charge of their own lives.
Speaking at a Youth Drivers Road Safety Outreach Programme here, Matthews Letsholo pleaded with youth drivers to rise up in the prevention of road traffic accidents by promoting responsible use of the road.
The programme was organized by the police from No. 3 Policing District, Southern district which includes the city of Gaborone, under the theme ‘Cultivating Responsible’
He said road traffic accidents remained a serious concern in Botswana as people continued to lose lives on the road, adding that some of the accidents could have easily been avoided had road users exercised patience and paid attention to road signs and regulations.
Letsholo said statistics indicated that young people aged between 18 - 40 years, accounted for a larger percentage of road traffic accidents that resulted in serious injuries and death.
He urged all young people to readily avail themselves and take full advantage of the road safety programmes for their benefit.
