Kampala, Uganda (PANA) – The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) will later this month host two workshops of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) with a view to improving the management of local football clubs.
The two CAF Club Licensing Workshops, an official of FUFA said during a press conference in Kampala on Wednesday, will run from April 22 to 23; and from April 25 to 26. A total of 52 delegates are expected to attend from across the continent.
“We have prepared well to host the workshops. Hosting all these delegates from across the continent is a strong message to the government that sports is a key driver of tourism in Uganda,” said Rogers Byamukama, the chairman of Club Licensing at FUFA.
Byamukama presented the opportunity for Uganda to host the workshops as a vote of confidence in FUFA by the continental football governing body, CAF. Last year, Uganda hosted the CAF Futsal and Beach Soccer committee meeting.
Club licensing is a tool for both the development and bench-marking of professional football clubs. Under the Club Licensing System, clubs need to comply with certain criteria before they may participate in FUFA, CAF and Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) competitions.
Licensing ensures that clubs comply with the set criteria before they are issued with licenses at the start of every season.
