US reiterates commitment to work with all parties for democratic, stable Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Special Envoy and Ambassador of the United States to Libya, Mr. Richard Norland, has reaffirmed that his country will continue to work with all parties to complete the transition to a democratic, stable and prosperous country.

Mr. Norland said this at a meeting on Friday in Tunisia with the member of  Libya's Parliament, Abdelssalam Nassiya, with whom he discussed the important efforts underway to support Libyans' aspiration for elections, according to a tweet published by the US embassy.

The US Ambassador tweeted: "I was pleased to hear Nassiya's thoughts on improving transparency in the management of oil revenues."

The US is seeking to get Libyans to agree on a mechanism for equitable management and redistribution of oil revenues among Libya's regions as well as transparency in public spending.

The US has been deeply involved in the political process in Libya since the advent of President Joe Biden's administration and has been accompanying Libya through Ambassador Norland, who was appointed Special Envoy to support a political solution through the organisation of general elections as soon as possible after the postponement of the 24 December 2021 elections.

Washington also supports the UN's efforts, currently led by US diplomat and Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General, Mrs. Stephanie Williams, who on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, concluded a second round of talks that have seen Parliament and the High State Council to reach consensus on 137 articles of a constitutional basis for the holding of general elections.

A third-round of the talks has been set to commence on 11 June to complete the consultations between the two chambers on the definition of a constitutional basis of the election.
