US commends Egyptian role in Sudan

Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA) - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and  Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty have underlined the need to end the current conflict in the Sudan and help the country move towards security and civil rule.

The US State Department Spokesperson,  Matthew Miller, said in a statement that Secretary of State  Blinken and Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty discussed the situation in the Middle East. 

The spokesperson said the Secretary emphasised the urgency of bringing the war in Gaza to an end, securing the release of all hostages, and increasing the delivery of humanitarian assistance. 

He said the Secretary thanked the Foreign Minister for Egypt’s continuing efforts to secure the release of the hostages.

The US state Department spokesperson said Blinken also thanked his Egyptian counterpart for the  “significant role Egypt has played in efforts to achieve an end to the conflict in Sudan, protect civilians, increase humanitarian aid, and advance a political transition to a civilian government.”

On Lebanon, the Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed efforts to promote a diplomatic resolution that would enable civilians to return to their homes with safety and security.

He said the Secretary underscored the need for Lebanese leaders to swiftly address the country’s presidential vacancy.
