US allows flights from Guinea after Ebola outbreak

Conakry, Guinea (PANA) - In a statement issued by the US Embassy in Conakry, the United States announced the lifting, as of midnight on Friday 14 May, 2021, of restrictions on passengers travelling from Guinea due to the Ebola epidemic in that country.

The US government said it was pleased with the "effective efforts" made by the Guinean government to contain the spread of the epidemic.

In response to the resurgence of Ebola in N'Zérékoré, the U.S. government had required, in early March, the collection and transmission of contact information of passengers who were in Guinea in the 21 days prior to their arrival in the United States.

The US government also required all flights carrying passengers to the US from Guinea to land only at a limited set of airports.

An Ebola outbreak resurfaced in Guinea in February this year, following the 2013 outbreak in the southeastern prefecture of Nzérékoré, about 1,000 km from the capital, Conakry, where it killed several people before the government announced the end of the pandemic three months later.
