UNHCR evacuates 85 asylum seekers from Libya to Italy

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Tuesday evacuated 85 vulnerable asylum seekers from Tripoli to Italy.

UNHCR said in a statement that they represent one of the most vulnerable groups of different nationalities.

The UN refugee agency welcomed Italy's support for its efforts, stressing that it was counting on the international community to provide more places and to provide safe and legal channels to transport migrants and asylum seekers out of Libya.

The migrants and refugees expressed their happiness to be leaving for Italy, where they hope they can live in peace and safety, and that their other colleagues in Libya would be able to leave later.

Some spoke of their journey and the difficulties they faced in their attempts to reach Europe.

In early July, 95 asylum seekers and refugees were evacuated via an organised flight from Libya to Italy by the UNHCR.
