UN: UN General Assembly President visits Ethiopia

New York, US (PANA) - The President of the UN General Assembly, Mr. Mogens Lykketoft, will be in Ethiopia on Thursday and Friday, 3-4 March, to meet Government and UN leaders, address the African Union and meet refugees, a UN statement said on Wednesday.

The statement obtained by PANA in New York said on arrival in Addis Ababa on Thursday, Mr Lykketoft will travel with UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) officials to a camp to meet refugees from the conflict in South Sudan.

"On Friday, Mr Lykketoft will meet with the Chair of the African Union Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, and will address the African Union Permanent Representatives Committee at the AU headquarters.

"Also, on Friday, the Assembly President will meet with meet Dr. Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, as well as Mr. Haile Menkerios, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the UN Office to the African Union.

"He will also address the Civil Society Workshop on 'The importance of a strategic partnership between the UN and the Africa Union'," it stated.
