Tripoli Media Days: Libya's Minister of State for Communication welcomes forum for media professionals
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libya's Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Walid Ellafi, Wednesday welcomed efforts made to organize the second session of the Tripoli Media Days.
He stressed that the aim of these events is to create "an oasis for discussion, exchange of ideas and direct communication between local and international media workers".
Mr. Ellafi underlined during the activities of the "Tripoli Media Days" launched on Wednesday in the capital, Tripoli, in the presence of a number of leading local and international media and cultural personalities.
The opening speech was delivered by Mahmoud Chammam, former head of media at the Executive Bureau of the National Transitional Council (ex-NTC, the political base of the 17 February 2011 revolutionaries).
He said the event was part of the national unity government's commitment to developing the media sector in Libya, according to a statement issued by the government platform 'Hakomitna'.
During a dialogue session at the opening of the forum, he pointed out that one of the most important tasks of government communication was to enhance Libya's image internationally and regionally.
The activities of this event, which run from 20 to 24 December, began with the announcement of the launch of the Libyan Media Forum, which will see the participation of the main local, Arab and international media channels and institutions in the field of written, audio and visual journalism over two consecutive days.
It should be noted that the activities of the Tripoli Media Days include the Libyan Media Forum, the Libyan Media Exhibition, the holding of the 100th Ordinary Session of the Standing Committee for Arab Media, and the organization of the twelfth National Festival of Performing Arts.
Other activities are the Tripoli Forum for Government Communication and the holding of the 18th Session of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information, culminating in a commemorative celebration of Libya's 72nd Independence Day on 24 December.
