Togo: Stakeholders move to promote, secure air transportation in Africa
Lomé, Togo (PANA) – Aviation stakeholders rose from their meeting here, recommending an action plan for the security and development of air transportation in Africa, according to official sources.
The plan was adopted by delegates to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), who met here 5-7 August, 2014.
The forum, among other recommendations, called for the setting up of quality infrastructure, the development and application of equal competitive rules, the need for African airlines to go into alliances in a bid to stronger, the creation of common airline, the ratification and implementation by States of the Yamoussoukro declaration related to the liberalization of the access to air transport markets in Africa.
It also underlined the intensification and strengthening of the appropriate means in terms of safety and security of air transport in a bid to reduce the rate of accident on the continent.
The 280 delegates, representing 23 African countries, 11 regional and international organizations and 39 private entities, also examined how to boost the economy of the air transport sector on the continent.
At the end of the conference, the director of the Togolese national civil aviation organization (ANAC-Togo), Col. Dokissime Gnama Latta, was elected chairman of the monitoring committee of the Lomé action plan.
Participants will again meet in 2016 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, one of the countries participating actively in the development of air transport in Africa.
