Sudan accuses Chad of supporting rival paramilitary forces

Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA) - Tension is rising between Sudan and its western neighbour, Chad, as Sudan steps up allegations that it is assisting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that has been fighting the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) since April last year.

The Sudan military government has since last April, when the war between the SAF RSF started, been alleging that mercenaries from a number of central African states had been arriving in Sudan through Chad.

It said Chad was also availing its territory for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to send shipments of arms and ammunition and also to evacuate injured troops or treat them inside Chad.

Chad has vehemently denied the accusations, arguing that on the contrary it has been receiving hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugees in its Adre area.

In many televised statement, President Mohamet Debby, has advised his countrymen to keep away from meddling in the Sudan war.

“Don’t bring what is happening in Sudan here; let what is happening there remain there,” he said in a recent televised statement.

The Chadian minister for foreign affairs and the government spokesman, Abdurrahman Kalamallah, said his country “strongly denies those false allegations” and stressed that Chad has always worked for peace in Sudan and has always taken into consideration the strong bonds between the two nations.
