Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - A senior US official has discussed counterterrorism objectives with Kenyan and Somali officials in visits to the East African countries this week.
A statement from the Office of the US State Department on Friday said the Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Christopher Landberg, was in Kenya and Somalia from 13-17 November to discuss "shared counterterrorism objectives, review State Department-funded capacity building programmes, and engage with his counterparts to strengthen security cooperation".
In Kenya, the statement said, Mr. Landberg met with senior government officials to reaffirm the United States’ strong security partnership with Kenya and to discuss priorities for regional coordination and cooperation against terrorism threats in East Africa.
He also joined Kenya’s Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a State Department-funded law enforcement training centre in Kanyonyo, Kenya.
In Somalia, Mr. Landberg met with senior government officials to discuss shared counterterrorism objectives in the country, the statement said.
