Senegal in semi-finals of UFOA tournament, Ghana in danger against Burkina
Thiès, Senegal (PANA) - Senegal has qualified for the semi-finals of the second edition of the Fox Sports Nations Tournament of the Union of West African Football Federations (UFOA).
The ‘Lions’ coach, Serigne Saliou Dia, dominated and beat the ‘Squirrels] of Benin by a lone goal.
The Senegalese, who have long mastered the game, had to rely on the opportunism of Philippe Paulin Keny who two minutes after his entry into play, delivered his own (65th minute).
Senegal is expecting to meet winners of Sunday's quarter-final match between Mali and Sierra Leone in the semi-finals next Tuesday.
In the first match of the tournament, the derby between the two Guineas turned to the advantage of ‘Syli National’ who beat the "Djurtus" of Bissau by two goals in the last five minutes of the game through Ousmane Camara and Victor Kantabadouno.
The players of Lappé Bangoura continue the competition, while it is over for those of Emiliano Té.
Friday, there will be an explosive quarter-final between Burkina Faso and Ghana at 20h. The Black Stars are the defending champions for winning the first edition at home in 2017. But since then, the tables seemed to have changed. Indeed, a few weeks ago, during the last round of qualifiers for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), the Stallions of Burkina Faso went on to win in Ghana (1 - 0). This gives them a significant psychological advantage in this key match on Friday.
Just before that, the victims of these two teams in the first phase, Mauritania and Gambia, will face each other, with the aim of securing a win to get the opportunity to play another ranking match. The loser will be reckoned to have played its last match in this tournament.
The results recorded Thursday were Guinea 2-Guinea Bissau 0; Senegal 1 Benin 0.
The program of Friday at 17h: Mauritania- Gambia; at 8 pm: Burkina Faso-Ghana.
