Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - President Omar Bashir on Thursday expressed optimism that a committee he set up last year to probe demonstrations that claimed a number of lives in Sudan would deliver.
The president said this when he received the Minister of Justice, Dr Mohamed Ahmed Salim, to brief him on the outcome of work by the committee.
The committee was formed by a presidential decree in 2018, a few weeks after the eruption of demonstrations and clashes in December last year that resulted in a number of causalities.
It was mandated to examine the whole incident and determine who was behind the deaths, how they occurred and who was responsible.
According to the government records, over 35 people were killed during the demonstration which started last year but opposition and human rights groups put the death toll at more than 50 people.
