No case of Ebola virus disease registered in Mali - Health Minister
Bamako, Mali (PANA) - Malian Minister of Health assured, on Monday at a meeting with technical and financial partners that Mali has not recorded any case of Ebola virus disease since the appearance of new cases in neighbouring Guinea.
In a statement, the Malian government announced preventive measures against Ebola disease, saying that technical services of the Health ministry, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), remain mobilized for implementation of the measures.
These measures concern the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance and the health control system at the country's borders, but also an increased awareness of the population.
The Ministry of Health is preparing health facilities to set up isolation and care units and to initiate activities to prevent the disease.
In addition to the measures, the Ministry of Health is strengthening health cooperation with the countries concerned, to ensure that "all measures are taken to prevent and respond to the epidemic" on national territory.
A resurgence of the Ebola epidemic was recently reported in Guinea.
The Guinean authorities have confirmed five deaths related to the virus and 12 suspected cases.
In 2014, an Ebola epidemic appeared in West Africa, particularly in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, with a few cases reported in Senegal, Nigeria and Mali.
Mali and the WHO declared the end of the epidemic on 18 January 2015, 42 days after the negative results of tests in a laboratory in Bamako.
