Nigeria tops Benin's list of clients within the ECOWAS region
Cotonou, Benin (PANA) - Nigeria is Benin's best customer in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in the third quarter of 2022, according to a publication by the National Institute of Statistics and Demography (INSTAD).
"Nigeria leads the way in the third quarter of 2022, accounting for 25.0% of the value of sales of products from Benin in the ECOWAS region.
"Cottonseed oil and its fractions" worth CFAF 1.9 billion (2,603.2 tonnes), "oil seeds and fruits", worth CFAF 0.2 billion (95.6 tonnes), "soaps, organic surface-active products and preparations for soap use "(134.0 tonnes) and 'palm oil and its fractions' worth CFAF 0.2 billion (474.4 tonnes) are the main products sold to this trading partner, the publication revealed.
In the third quarter of 2022, Benin's exports to its ECOWAS client countries stood at CFAF 10.4 billion. The five main clients are Nigeria, Togo, Côte d'Ivoire, Niger and Mali. Ranked second in the quarter under review, Togo accounted for 22.7% of the value of Beninese products sold within ECOWAS, with "medicines", "second-hand goods, rags and clothing", "oil cakes and other solid residues" and "plastic transport or packaging articles".
Their sales amounted to CFAF 0.4 billion, CFAF 0.3 billion (108.2 tonnes), CFAF 0.2 billion (1,609.1 tonnes) and CFAF 0.2 billion respectively during the quarter.
Côte d'Ivoire ranked third in the third quarter of 2022, with a 21.2% share of the value of sales of Beninese products in the ECOWAS zone. Cotton fabrics, unbleached, etc.", "food preparations, etc.", and "second-hand clothes, rags and cloths" are the main goods exported to this country for CFAF 1.4 billion, CFAF 0.5 billion and CFAF 0.2 billion respectively.
Niger maintained the same rank (fourth) from the second quarter during the quarter under review, accounting for 16.8% of the value of sales of Beninese products in the economic space. The main goods exported to this country are "articles for transport or packaging, of plastics...", worth CFAF 0.3 billion, "malt beers (including ale, stout and porter)" (CFAF 0.3 billion) and "bars (other than wire rod of sub-group 676.1)..." (CFAF 0.3 billion)(CFAF 0.3 billion) in terms of re-exports.
Mali ranked fifth in the quarter under review, accounting for 8.2% of the value of sales of Beninese products in the ECOWAS region.
