Niger: Twelve die in recent floods in Niger

Niamey, Niger (PANA) – Twelve people were killed in recent floods in Niger following downpours in six regions of the West African country -- Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua, Tillabéry, Zinder and Niamey, the humanitarian coordination committee (CCH) said Thursday.

The committee added that the floods destroyed 4,425 houses leaving 27,293 people homeless.

With support from UNICEF, the government has delivered food and material assistance to 2,227 affected families. The assistance, however, is enough to meet their needs for a month while 2,223 more families affected by the floods are yet to be reached.
