Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Several hundreds of Tunisians and sub-Saharan Africans gathered on Saturday in front of the Tunis Municipal Theatre to denounce racism following the murder of George Floyd, an African-American who was strangled on May 25 by a white police officer in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the United States.
The video footage of the scene sent shockwaves around the world and sparked protests on every continent.
"America is the same, America is still racist. Trump, coward, where are the human rights?" the demonstrators, from more than 30 associations and NGOs, chanted anti-racism songs.
The protesters held up placards, some of which read "Let us breath", "Black lives matter", "No justice, no freedom", while two of them faked the scene of the crime when the policeman placing his knee on George Floyd's throat choked him to death as the latter shouted, "I can't breath".
"I came here today to speak out against racism. It's a shame that such inhuman practices still persist in the 21st century," cried Fatma Bellil, a young student who couldn't hold back her tears.
Another young man, Ahmed Karim, said "we should not limit ourselves to symbolic sit-ins, but work to translate the rejection of racism into the daily behavior of people all over the world, including in Tunisia".
