Moussa Faki expresses support for national reconciliation project in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, Friday expressed his full support for the national reconciliation project to build stability and peace in Libya.

On Thursday, the Libyan Presidential Council presented the vision on the national reconciliation strategy in Libya that will be implemented by the Office of the High Commissioner for Reconciliation.

The strategy is based on the activation of transitional justice to heal the wounds and reconcile Libyans among themselves by respecting the principle of justice.

In a telephone conversation on Friday with Libya's minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Najla Al-Mangouch, Faki reaffirmed his support for the efforts of the national unity government in its quest to fulfil the Libyan people's demand to hold parliamentary and presidential elections as soon as possible, said a statement issued by the Libyan Foreign ministry.

The head of the Libyan diplomacy praised Mr. Faki's efforts and continued cooperation with the government of national unity, hailing the importance of the positive role played by the African Union in the issue of national reconciliation.

It should be noted that the Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Claude Gakosso, whose country holds the chairmanship of the African Union high-level committee on Libya, visited Tripoli and Benghazi on Monday, where he met with Libyan officials to present the AU's plan for national reconciliation in Libya.

During a telephone conversation between Ms. Al-Mangouch and Mr. Faki, the latest prevailing developments and the political situation on the local and international scene were discussed.
