Moroccan peacekeepers redeployed in western Cote d'Ivoire

Rabat, Morocco (PANA) - Moroccan peacekeepers attached to the UN Operations in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) have been redeployed in the western part of the country to beef up security in the area where a numer of soldiers from Niger were kiled recently.

The Moroccan peacekeepers are to reinforce security near the Liberian border, the Maghreb Press Agency (MAP) based in Morocco, reported.

It added that the protection of civilians in that zone is the major consideration.

Peacekeepers from Niger were part of the patrol unit deployed in south Tai, a highly-secured region due to violent threats targeting unarmed civilians.

There are 853 Moroccan soldiers serving under UN in Cote d'Ivoire.
