More than 150 illegal migrants evacuated from Tripoli to Rwanda

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Some 153 illegal migrants have been evacuated in a humanitarian operation to Rwanda as a third country, the Libyan Ministry of the Interior has announced.

In a statement published on Thursday, the Ministry said that the body responsible for combating illegal immigration had supervised a humanitarian evacuation flight of the illegal immigrants of different African nationalities to Rwanda.

The Ministry of the Interior indicated that these steps had been taken in coordination with the Directorate of International Organisations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

In a press release, the Ministry of the Interior stressed that this was part of its commitment to international treaties and conventions respecting human rights.

For its part, the UNHCR said on its account on the "X" platform: "Today, 153 refugees and asylum seekers were safely evacuated by plane to Rwanda on the last evacuation flight of the year."

More than 1,200 refugees and asylum seekers were able to leave Libya with the support of the UNHCR and the Libyan government, it said.
