Libya to hire foreign firms to enhance border security

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – Libya has announced plans to contract foreign security companies to help tighten security at its borders and equip the Libyan army, Abdelrazzak al-Chahaibi, the Spokesman for the Libyan Defence Minister, Abdallah al-Thieni, indicated here Monday.

He said the minister had established contacts with some firms abroad to further address the problems associated with its porous borders, adding that the defence ministry had received detailed offers from some of the companies.

The ministry recalled that Libya has reached accords with neighboring Egypt, Sudan, Chad and Niger to jointly secure the shared borders.

He also called on Libyans to cooperate with the government in its plan to reclaim weapons from illegal owners across the country.
