Libya reaffirms commitment to implementation of PANAPRESS refinancing, restructuring programme

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libya's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Omar Ketty, on Sunday granted audience to a delegation from the Pan African News Agency (PANAPRESS) led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Aref Biyouk.

Other members of the delegation were the Director General of the Agency, Mr. Babacar Fall and the Director of the North Africa office, Ali Dellali.

After a detailed account of the agency's financial situation by the Director General, the Libyan Deputy Minister in charge of International Cooperation gave a progress report on the steps being taken to quickly settle his country's arrears to the pan-African institution's budget.

Mr. Ketty reiterated Libya's firm commitment to implement the refinancing-restructuring programme adopted by the agency's board of directors, which is chaired by Libya.

"Steps are being taken with the financial institutions in Tripoli for this settlement in order to make up for the delay in the execution of the programme," he said.

"The refinancing needs to be done quickly not only to absorb the current liabilities, but to project the agency into the multimedia era in a definitive manner," Ketty said.

"We are aware of the difficulties experienced by all the actors working for the development of the continental agency, but we are very advanced in the process of settlement and recovery," the Libyan official assured.

The Director General thanked the Libyan authorities for their constant support for the development of the agency.
