Libya elected vice-president of 42nd session of General Conference of UNESCO
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libya was elected vice-president of the 42nd session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), at a meeting held at the organization's headquarters in the French capital, Paris.
Libya's election to the position of vice-president was the culmination of efforts by the Libyan Minister of Education, Chairman of the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, and the permanent representative of the State of Libya to UNESCO, Moussa Al-Magaryef.
The minister stressed the importance of this victory in strengthening national participation in the main bodies of the organization, following the educational, cultural and scientific movement and benefiting from it to develop and activate numerous initiatives and programmes of national priority.
He explained that the announcement of Libya's victory as vice-president of the current session, along with 30 other countries, was made at the time of the recommendations of the organization's Executive Board, which elected the president of the General Conference, vice-presidents, chairmen of the commissions, vice-chairmen and their rapporteurs in application of the provisions of the Rules of Procedure of the General Conference, and in accordance with the recommendations of the Executive Board.
Last Friday, the minister, in his capacity as head of the Libyan delegation attending the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference, presented the document ratifying the 2003 Convention for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage at an official ceremony held at the organization's main headquarters.
