Libya: UN secures ammunition depots

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (MANUL) has announced it has started a project to secure an ammunition depot in the city of Zenten to make Libya a more secure country.

A statement issued on Friday by MANUL said the exercise started on 18 June.

It said the project was aimed at preventing dangers of explosives and other munitions not controlled by local authorities.

MANUL will collect ammunition from neighbouring zones of Zenten, as well as the training local agents on the management of ammunition in a bid to ensure the guarding and surveillance of the depot.

MANUL says that about 52 tonnes of materiel were destroyed last week in Soukna, in south-east Libya, in an operation carried out by its international partners.

The UN mission said it was working with the local authorities and the international partners to make Libya a more secure country through the destruction of ammunition and explosives.
