Libya: UN mission reduces staff in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – The UN support mission in Libya (MANUL) has announced a reduction in its staff in Libya following the prevailing insecurity in the country, saying it would give priority to the security of its members.

Local newspaper, al-Wassat, quoted the mission as saying that the decision was made after a study on the security situation in the country over the past few months.

According to the mission, the measure is in accordance with the UN security plans for its staff, adding that the reduction of its staff strength was a temporary measure that will be revised in the short-term when the security situation improves.

PANA recalls that recently three European engineers working for an Italian company in the western city of Zouara were abducted out of which two were released.

Attacks targeting foreign nationals have increased over the past few months in Libya.
