Libya: Tripoli districts bombarded with heavy weapons

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – Several districts of the Libyan capital, Tripoli, came under heavy bombardment Saturday from rival militias fighting for the control of Tripoli airport, PANA reported from here.

Heavy explosions could be heard in different districts of Tripoli, including the zone leading to the airport, al-Akwakh, Aïn Zara, Salaheddine, Janzour, Gasr Ben Ghashir and Omar Mokhtar, witnesses said.

No information is available on possible victims or material damage as a result of the bombardments.

Fighting continued in Tripoli despite the mediation by the UN Support mission in Libya (MANUL) and appeals for immediate ceasefire made by the new Parliament which has called for international intervention to protect the civilians and institutions.
