Libya: Next round of inter-Libyan talks postponed to Thursday

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – The next round of the inter-Libyan talks expected to lead to a political solution of the Libyan crisis, previously set for Sunday in Morocco, has been postponed until Thursday, participants in the negotiations told PANA.

The rescheduling of the talks comes after multiple bombing attacks in the eastern Libyan city of Al-Qubbah, which killed at least 40 people and injured 70 others.

The bombings targeted a number of locations in Al-Qubbah, hometown of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh Kuweider.

According to the same sources, the chief of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) who facilitates the talks, Bernardino Leon, has asked for the postponement to give time to delegates to mourn victims of the terrorist acts, evaluate the consequences and consult about the agenda for the next round of talks to be hosted in Morocco.

Expected to produce a decisive turning point on the progress of the talks and the Libyan crisis, talks at the next round will not be direct between the concerned parties but discussions will be held through the UN envoy, interposed between the stakeholders.

According to Leon, a political deal can be reached if “differences between the parties can be overcome".

Leon said that he was convinced that the sense of responsibility for the fate of the Libyan people and national unity, democracy and territorial integrity will prevail among stakeholders during the talks.
