Libya: 4 killed, 11 injured in armed clashes

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – At least four people were killed and 11 others injured on Friday evening in renewed armed clashes in Ouerchefana, in western Libya, hospital sources said on Saturday.

Three bodies and five injured persons were sent to the Al-Zahra hospital in Ouerchefana, said sources at the hospital, which added that the victims were from the troops of Ouerchefana and Libyan tribes.

The sources said they had limited stock of drugs and medical equipment because of the blockade of the city by troops loyal to the Islamist militia coalition mainly from Misrata, Fajer Libya, who launched a military offensive several days ago.

In Zaouia, 50 km west of Tripoli, the university hospital of the city received one body and six injured persons belonging to forces involved in the fighting in Ouerchefana under the command of Fajr Libya.

The Libyan national committee of human rights on Thursday expressed grave concern following the human rights abuses against civilian inhabitants in Ouerchefana, denouncing the humanitarian disaster particularly because of the blockade and the systematic targeting of civilians.

The government had previously denounced the continuous bombardments of several residential districts in the western zone of Tripoli by the armed groups, which claimed many lives and injured others, as well as the destruction of houses and property belonging to citizens.

The UN envoy in Libya, Bernardino Leon, announced he would meet leaders of the tribe of Ouerchefana, stressing the need that a ceasefire must be global and inclusive in order to get in touch with all stakeholders to find political solutions.
