Libya: 20 die in inter-tribal violence in southern Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - At least 20 people have been killed and dozens more injured in clashes that broke out on Monday between the Touareg and Toubou tribes in the city of Oubari in southern Libya, military sources said.

The gun exchanges and light and heavy weapon bombardments between the two tribes were continuing on Tuesday, according to witnesses.

The fighting was triggered by attempts by the Toubous armed militias to pass through the positions being held by the Touareg forces in Oubari to enter the city and take control of it.

Southern Libya has regularly been the theater of bloody inter-tribal fighting among the Zuei, the Arabs, the Toubous, the Touaregs and the Blacks living along the borders with Chad, Niger and Sudan.
