Kenyan blast kills suicide bomber

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - A suicide bomber Friday killed himself in a Somali-dominated community neighbourhood in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, hours before US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, arrived in Kenya for a scheduled visit.

The blast, which occurred near a military barrack in the capital, injured nine people.

The explosion went off near the neighbourhood of California in Nairobi’s Majengo slums, popularly known as the recruiting ground for Somalia’s Al Shabaab militia.

A Police source said a Kenyan soldier was amongst the nine injured people.

But a Kenyan military spokesman, Colonel Cyrus Oguna, said information about the latest attack was not immediately available.

The blast appeared to target the flight path of the Eightstleigh in Nairobi, where several Kenyan air force personnel are usually stationed to guard against overcrowding near the area that is used as the flight path.

“The air force officer stationed near the flight path to control crowds appeared to have been the target. The soldier sustained slight burns but has been discharged from hospital.
