Kenya: Kanu set to tour Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - Former Nigeria and Arsenal superstar, Nwankwo Kanu, will be the chief guest during the StarTimes Seven-a-side Inter-Media Football Challenge in Nairobi on 2 April.
StarTimes, the Chinese pay TV group, East Africa Office in Nairobi, said apart from gracing the 16-team inaugural media challenge, the former striker will also conduct a football clinic for children as part of his role as the StarTImes Global Goodwill Ambassador.
Kanu, who skippered Nigeria when they won the 1996 Olympic football title, will also spend time with cardiovascular condition patients to promote his Kanu Heart Foundation which he founded in 2000.
The Foundation helps save underprivileged African children by offering cardiovascular procedures.
Capped 86 times, scoring 13 goals for Nigeria between 1994 and 2010, Kanu was diagnosed with a hear defect that threatened his amazing football career shortly after the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
He underwent a successful heart surgery in November 1996, enabling him to continue playing football professionally.
With English Premier League title, FA Cup, Champions League, the FIFA Under-17 and Olympic titles to his name, Kanu, one of Africa's most decorated footballer. Also under his belt are two CAF African-Footballer-of-the-Year honours.
In Kenya, Kanu will also visit media houses and the Kenyatta National Hospital Cardiovascular wards.
