Investigations to begin on Nigerian cargo plane accident in Ghana

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - Investigations are expected to commence immediately on the cause of Saturday night's accident involving a Nigerian Cargo plane at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra that led to the death of 10 people in a bus.

A statement by Emergency Operating Centre (EOC) dealing with the accident said the aircraft was a Boeing 727-200 with registration 5NBJN enroute from Lagos via Accra to Abidjan.

"The aircraft on landing overshot the runway and went through the airport perimetre fence. It then hit a Daewoo taxi cab with a lady passenger in it and ran through a mini-van on the Giffard Road (El Wak – Burma Camp)," it said in a press statement.

The EOC said the cargo had no dangerous goods and the accident scene had been secured and cordoned off. Emergency teams are still at the accident scene.

The 10 confirmed fatalities consist of one female and nine males.
