Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan wins BBC African Footballer

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan was on Friday voted by fans as BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2010.

Gyan, the arrowhead of the Black Stars, who now plays for English Premiership side Sunderland, won ahead of compatriot Andre 'Dede' Ayew, Ivorians Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon.

He has had a successful year after leading the attack of the Black Stars to take them to final of the 2010 African Nations Cup in Angola and the quarter final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Gyan has also settled down quickly in the Sunderland team and has scored a number of important goals.

His down side was when he missed a last minute penalty against Uruguay that could have taken Ghana to the semi final of the 2010 World Cup.
