Gambia government rejects memo in circulation about civil servants pay as ‘grossly false’
Banjul, Gambia (PANA) - The Gambian government has described a rescheduled document (memo) in circulation as ‘false and misleading’ and therefore urged the public to desist from misuse of letterheads of the Presidency and State Ministries.
A statement made available to PANA Tuesday stated that the president and his cabinet had rescheduled new and pay scale for civil servants after a thorough review of the financial implication and considering the current government revenue and departure.
“I am directed through the office of the President to inform you that the above subject matter is now rescheduled to take effect 1st January 2023.The understanding of all and sundry is solicited.”
But in a government’s counter statement through its spokesman Ebrima G Sankareh dismissed as 'grossly false and misleading designed to cause anxiety among the population'.
“The Gambia government wishes to inform all civil servants that a memo trending on social media on purported rescheduled of the new pay and grating false and misleading, designed to cause anxiety, and disgust among the population.
“Civil Servants are particularly urged to ignore this repugnant memo intended to demoralize a hard-working and patriotic workforce that deserves nothing less than the best,” he said.
“The Gambia government remains resolute in improving the welfare of all citizens and ever since coming to power that has been priority of President Adama Barrow and his government.
"Accordingly, citizens are advised to desist from the misuse of letterheads, logos and insignia of the State House, Ministries, Government Departments and State Agencies,” he added.
