Gabon energy company increases electricity generation in Libreville

Libreville, Gabon (PANA) – The Gabonese energy and water company (SEEG) on Saturday announced it has increased the production of electricity in the capital, Libreville, from 638 gigawatt hour to 658 gigawatt hour.

This follows the installation of 16 additional power generators of 1.5 megawatts each, after the signing of a contract with US international group APR Energy on 30 August.

Libreville has for many years suffered from power cuts as SEEG's installed capacity has not been able to meet the demand of the increasing population.

The director of SEEG's electric systems, Martial Ondo Mvé, said the company needed thermal companies to strengthen its hydroelectric capacity during the dry season marked by the poor rains and a drop in the water level at the Tchimbélé dam.

SEEG, a subsidiary of the group Veolia Eau, has a stated capital of 15 billion CFAF.

It is owned by Veolia Eau (51%), Gabonese private companies (23%), including 3.2% for personnel of SEEG, and 26% for Gabonese individuals.
