GCC welcomes compromise reached by joint Libyan commission at meetings in Morocco
Doha, Qatar (PANA) - The summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held in Doha on Tuesday welcomed the compromise reached at the June meetings in Morocco of the "6+6" Joint Commission.
The Commission is tasked by the Libyan House of Representatives and Council of State with preparing the electoral laws.
The compromise reached on the laws governing the election of the head of state and members of parliament in Libya represents "a positive and constructive step, in the run-up to the presidential and parliamentary elections", stressed the Council in its final communiqué at the end of its 44th summit, held under the presidency of Qatar.
The GCC reaffirmed its constant positions in relation to the Libyan crisis, reiterating its concern to work to preserve the interests of the Libyan people and the security, stability and development of Libya.
He also emphasized the need to preserve Libya's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, stressing the need to put an end to interference in its internal affairs and to withdraw all foreign forces and mercenaries from its territory.
The GCC leaders also reiterated their support for the efforts of the UN envoy to reach a political solution, hold elections and unify state institutions to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people and consolidate the foundations of security and stability in the country.
