French Development Agency grants Niger FCFA 30b for power project

Niamey, Niger (PANA) - The French Development Agency (AFD) will contribute for up to FCFA 30 billion to the financing of a hydro-electric project in Kandadji, Niger, according to Dov Zerah, Director General of the agency.

Zerah, who met with President Mahamadou Issoufou Monday in Niamey, said the project was important for Niger in terms of power generation and water use for irrigation development.

He pledged that the agency would support the socio-economic development programme of President Issoufou.

AFD has been operating in Niger for many years, supporting the country in several areas, including the development of basic social infrastructure.

The dam project in Kandadji is expected to cost FCFA 300 billion.
