Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) - The United States has evacuated its citizen from Botswana, as cases of the COVID-19 pandemic rise in the diamond rich, landlocked Southern Africa country.
The American citizens were flown out on Friday on a chartered flight, the U.S. Embassy in Gaborone said.
“Early this morning Ambassador Cloud and his team helped send 30 plus Americans home to reunite with their families. We wish them safe travel and give our sincere thanks to Botswana government for facilitation, and to the airport staff for your assistance,” said the US Embassy in a communiqué.
According to the statement, the ambassador and his team have remained behind working remotely to continue programmes and partnership with the people of Botswana.
Botswana’s confirmed cases of the COVID-19 doubled this week to 13, after seven other people tested positive.
