Cape Verde: Cape Verde attends business meeting of China, Portuguese-speaking countries

Praia, Cape Verde (PANA) – A delegation of Cape Verdian businessmen is taking part in the 24-27 August meeting between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in the Mozambican capital, Maputo, to analyze and define new economic and trade cooperation arrangement, reliable sources told PANA on Tuesday in Praia.

Cape Verdian companies represented at the meeting are engaged in various economic activities including flour milling, animal feeds production, recycling of urban waste, accounting services and civil engineering, among other fields.

An official of Cabo Verde Investimentos (CI), an which sponsored the participation of about a dozen Cape Verdian businessmen, said that the initiative aims at "promoting trade relations between the participating companies through identification of new forms of cooperation, investment opportunities and promotion of partnerships which contribute to the socioeconomic development of the respective countries”.

During the forum, CI, a national body that promotes and attracts foreign investment to the island, will present investment opportunities and the business environment in Cape Verde.

The meeting, held within the framework of the Chinese-Portuguese speaking countries cooperation, is jointly organized by the Institute for the promotion of exports in Mozambique (IPEX), the Council for the promotion of China’s international trade and the Institute for Promotion of Trade and Investment in Macao (IPIM).

Held annually on a rotation basis, the meeting was established within the framework of the cooperation protocol signed between nine organizations for trade promotion and the Chambers of Commerce of China and Portuguese-speaking countries that took part in the Forum for economic cooperation between the two parties in October 2003.
