Cameroon: Three die in Cameroon fire

Douala, Cameroon (PANA) – A fire on Thursday night in the district of New-Town in coastal city of Kribi, in southern Cameroon, has left three dead and several houses destroyed, security sources told PANA on Friday.

Mesmer Ndema, a gendarme in Kribi, said the residents of New-Town woke up to loud explosions and a fierce fire.

According to the gendarme, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined by the investigation commission established on Friday by the prefect.

However, eyewitnesses say that it could have been caused by a candle lighted next to a motorcycle and a bottle of gas in one of the houses that was burned.

Ndema said in the absence of firemen in the city of Kribi, the rescue operations were organized around the residents who did not have the means to put off the fire.

They were, however, helped by a heavy rain that stopped it from spreading.
