Cameroon: FIFA postpones election at Cameroonian Football Federation

Yaoundé, Cameroon (PANA) – The crisis committee of football governing body, FIFA, on Friday authorized the postponement of elections at the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) by 28 February next year.

It also ordered the extension of the work of the normalization committee which is currently running football in the country, sports sources said on Saturday.

The sources said FIFA Secretary General, Jérome Valke, had sent a letter to the Cameroonian authorities on these directives.

Those arguing that there would be security problems if the elections went ahead had asked FIFA for the postponement initially planned for Saturday 29 November.

The tension around the elections was fuelled by the disqualification of five out of six candidates, including former international footballer, Joseph Antoine Bell.

The FIFA crisis committee said: “The elections will be held on the basis of the status adopted on 23 August 2014 and the electoral process will not be opened to candidates other than the top five lists filed on 10 November 2014.”
