CORRECTION Coronavirus: Zambia records one death, 4 new cases of COVID-19 in last 24 hours

CORRECTION: Corrects age of the deceased from 9 years to 19 years

 

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) – A nineteen-year old female who was recently admitted to Chilenje Hospital has died from COVID-19, bringing the death toll of confirmed cases of coronavirus to three, Health minister Chitalu Chilufya said here on Sunday.

According to the minister, the deceased is the one who was brought in for attempted suicide and developed internal organ failure as a result of the poison she consumed and also tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka, Chilufya announced that Zambia has further recorded four new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 61.

He said the two cases involve residents of Kafue district, near Lusaka, while the other two are a nurse and a medical licentiate from Chilenje hospital.

He said a total of 397 cases were tested in the last 24 hours out of which 30 were done at Chilenje Clinic which brought out the two positive cases.

Cumulatively, he said the cases now stand at 61 with three deaths and 33 recoveries.
