CHAN 2024: CAF unveils new logo and trophy
Cairo, Egypt (PANA) - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday unveiled a new logo and trophy for the TotalEnergies 2024 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) just before the final draw for the tournament in August to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda.
The new look for the tournament brings a fresh identity and emphasises its deep-rooted connections to African football and culture, CAF Online reported.
The CAF media outlet said the trophy features a sleek, contemporary design, combining gold and silver elements, representing the prestige and growing stature of the tournament.
It said a significant detail is the 54 distinct lines encircling the trophy, symbolizing the 54 African nations united with a map of the continent at its core.
“This element underscores the championship’s celebration of diversity and unity across the continent. Each line represents the foundation of African football, a pathway carved by our passion and skill, a tribute to our players and our dreams,” it said.
CAF said the new trophy stands as a powerful symbol of African football’s ongoing progress and the shared passion for the game.
The TotalEnergies CHAN 2024, which has been postponed to August 2025, will be the Eighth edition of the finals and the first to be played in East Africa since Rwanda hosted in 2016.
CHAN features 19 teams made up of home-based players who will battle it out for the right to be crowned champions.
The following are the countries that have so far qualified for the finals:
CECAFA: Hosts: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania along with Sudan
WAFU A: Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania
WAFU B: Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria
UNIFFAC: Central Africa Republic, Congo, DR Congo
COSAFA: Angola, Madagascar, Zambia
UNAF: Morocco
Two additional countries will participate in the tournament after qualifying from the remaining matches. Algeria, Comoros, Gambia, Malawi, Egypt, South Africa and Gabon to take part in a qualification campaign to fill the slots.
