Benin: Media highlight Pesident Boni Yayi’s three years in power

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) – The Beninese newspapers this week devoted a large part of their publications to the assessment of president Boni Yayi regime which on Sunday marked three years in his second term as president.

“On 6 April, the Yayi II government, will be three years old," says the newspaper, Le Confrère de la matinée, which reported that President Yayi, who had vowed to fiercely fight corruption on assumption of power, had failed to fulfill his promise.

Under the headline, "Year 3 of the second five-year term for president Boni Yayi: Beninese citizens and activists give their verdict," the newspaper, L’événement précis, reported a mixed feeling by the people on the success or failure of the president.

It said, generally, the regime remains a “disaster”.

And the L’Autre quotidien newspaper said, however, that with two years to go before the end of his term, President Yayi, despite the persisting social tension which resulted in a revolt by the country’s main confederations of trade unions and the crisis of confidence with the traditional political class, is still firing on all cylinders.
