Belgium: New EU/Morocco fishing agreement comes into force

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) – The Moroccan government has authorized the coming into force of a new fishing agreement concluded between the European Union (EU) and Morocco, European official sources said on Saturday.

The application of that new fishing deal has been delayed, particularly because of the Western Sahara issue and the disagreement on the entry into the European market of agricultural products from Morocco.

The coming into force of the deal will see vessels flying European flags to resume their activities in Moroccan territorial waters.

In addition to Spain, the other EU member countries involved in the deal are Portugal, Italy, France, Germany, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Ireland, Poland and the UK.

With the new fishing deal, Morocco will receive financial compensation of 40 million euros.
